Editorial Assistant Intern

As the leader of the Olympic Movement throughout the Americas, Panam Sports is seeking a motivated intern who is passionate about writing and seeking an introduction into the exciting world of international sport. As the Editorial Assistant Intern at Panam Sports, you would learn how to write about international sports events in a variety of publications and mediums, while also contributing your unique voice to the Organization’s strategic vision to improve the reach and importance of the Pan American Games.

We work closely with Olympic leaders, top athletes and future stars of the Americas to fuel the development of sport and inspire greater participation on the world stage.

We are seeking a savvy team player who can bring fresh ideas to our Organization. Preference will be given to students who have a strong grasp of both the English and Spanish languages, as our communications are published in both to reach audiences across North and South America.

Overall Job Purpose: 
The Editorial Assistant Intern is responsible for assisting with, generating and editing captivating content to publish on our digital platforms and print publications. The ideal candidate is an experienced writer and storyteller that can communicate Panam Sports’ goal of developing the Americas through sport in compelling ways. The successful applicant will be a team player that’s ready to give and receive feedback. You should be a stickler for meeting deadlines and great at multi-tasking, as we balance multiple projects at once. Preference will be given to those with experience in online writing and knowledge of content marketing.

Part-Time Internship: Seeking motivated University student to work 12-20 hours per week throughout the course of the semester with flexible hours to fit your class schedule. 

Academic Credit available in most cases. Ask your Academic Advisor for more information regarding receiving Academic Credit for your participation in the program.

Reports To: Communications Director and Strategic Communications Manager

Key Duties: 
1) Content Creation
a. Assist with the creation of content campaigns that align with marketing objectives and company goals
b. Produce, edit and customize content for all our platforms, including our website, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook
c. Pitch ideas for articles, videos or other engaging content to be included in our monthly and quarterly publications
d. Perform online and on-the-ground research for blog posts, articles, social media posts and other content
e. Work with the marketing team to analyze content performance metrics, such as click-through rates and social following growth, and apply those insights to improve existing content and develop better content ideas for the future

2) Research and Development
a. Seek out and identify athletes and other important stakeholders for potential interviews 
b. Understand the calendar of regional and international sporting events that serve as qualifiers to or are related to the Pan American Games 

Key Skills Required for the Role:
  • Proven written communication skills and a passion for writing
  • Excellent teamwork, verbal communication and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of both the English and Spanish languages strongly preferred
  • An interest in marketing, communications or social media management
  • Familiarity with key social media platforms (e.g. Instagram, Twitter and Facebook) and Microsoft Office products (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel); 
  • An ability to consistently demonstrate our values of insight, hard work, and effectiveness in your personal approach to work 
  • An entrepreneurial attitude
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high motivation to learn 
  • An ability to remain calm under pressure and a resilient attitude towards challenges
  • An ability to prioritize work and complete tasks in an efficient manner
  • Ability to research and learn about a wide range of topics
  • Experience working with content management systems such as WordPress
  • Knowledge of AP style
  • In college working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, English, Creative Writing, Media, Sports Management or related field
